Flaming Rose, Earth’s Adornment

Pompei - Casa del Bracciale d’OroHandel’s nine German Arias stand among a very small group of works that he composed in his native language and still rank among some of his best-kept secrets. The pieces, settings of poems by Handel’s contemporary and possible classmate at the University of Halle, Barthold Brockes offer some of Handel’s most joyous and profound music for solo voice.

A selection of these arias will be performed alongside music that surrounded and influenced Handel, instrumental works from his once time colleague and the founder of the Academy of Ancient Music, Johann Christoph Pepusch, his old friend Georg Telemann, Telemann’s godson CPE Bach and the most important violin virtuoso of the german high baroque, Johann Georg Pisendel.
